Meet Kayla- A Wish kid and our former President!
Why is this event special to us? Not only is the Make-A-Wish Foundation® special to the whole chapter but we have an alumni that has personally experienced the joy wishes can make in a child's life. Kayla is a Wish kid alumni, and a former president of Gamma Kappa!
When I was four years old I was given the best opportunity a child at that age could ask for, which was a vacation to Disney World! When I was three and a half years old I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a fast-growing cancer of the white blood cells. I had been fighting for a while and it was around that time that we got word I would be going to Disney World and my mother and father would be going with me. We received free flights, a place to stay, food, spending money, and even a free rental car to make it a no hassle vacation for me and my family! Not to mention the fact that we got the opportunity to travel around all of the parks for the days we were there, and they even gave us each $50 spending money every day. My family stayed at a child-friendly condominium where there was always something fun for our family to be doing together.
"The best thing about this trip was that I spent my 5th birthday at Disney World, and I got to experience the magic of Disney!"
Even though so many childhood experiences were taken away from me because of the illness, having my wish granted was a vacation away from it all and I will always be grateful for it. Soon thereafter my counts were finally looking better and I am now a healthy woman and proud sister of Chi Omega. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® will always have a special place in my heart!
